The media is inescapable.  Everywhere people go, they are surrounded by all forms of media (television, internet, radio and advertisement).  Media controls our society, and can have different effects depending on the viewer.  The Syntha-6 ad is likely designed to have a different effect on women, men and teen viewers.  A woman viewer is given the message that in order to be considered desirable, she needs to fulfill the media’s image of the ideal woman.  For example, the bottle in the ad is shaped like an hourglass.  This suggests that an ideal woman has an hourglass figure.  The ad implies that if a woman drinks the protein shake, she will achieve the ideal body shape.  The Syntha – 6 ad targets the male viewer in a sexually suggestive manner.  The ad implies that if a man’s girlfriend or wife drinks their product, she will look like the model shown in the ad.  As well the ad reads “Shake well and enjoy”.  This may be a reference to a woman shaking her body in a suggestive way.  The ad is designed to have a similar effect on a younger audience such as teenagers. The message is that if you drink the protein shake, you will soon have the “perfect body” shown in the ad.  However, this is an  can be a unhealthy message for most teens who are trying to find their true identities in society as a young adult growing up.
